Grapefruit & Blood Orange Smoothie
So it’s still cold here… not so much cold but damp. I can see Spring coming, but I can’t quite touch it and lately it’s been just dreary. And while I enjoy oatmeal for breakfast, it’s oatmeal… know what I’m saying? So how did I fix that?
Simple. Fresh fruit, bright colours and citrus. Problem Solved!
This really simple smoothie will have you out the door with breakfast in no time, or help brighten up a dreary afternoon. It’s simple and can be made in under 5 minutes. Hello easy mornings!
- 1 blood orange
- 1/2 a grapefruit
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/4 cup light coconut milk
- top with 1/2 tbsp cacao nibs (optional)
- Cut the orange and grapefruit into bits. Add to the blender along with the chia seeds, banana and coconut milk.
- Blend until mixed together. Top with cacao nibs!
When I wake up these days I try and enjoy something a little more “bright in flavour” and this really makes the most of a dreary day. The chia seeds I find help with keeping you ‘full’ a little longer, but you could easily add vanilla protein powder to make this really count.
I have so much to share with you on the blog, I can’t keep it a secret! There are things… clean things… coming to the blog. Lots of recipes, tricks, tips and things I want to share with you along the way! Make sure you come back TOMORROW for more!! Yes TOMORROW!

This smoothie looks so fresh & fruity. I love the simple ingredients! Sorry, oatmeal!
This sounds so refreshing! Wish I had some grapefruit at home so I could make this right now!
Oh how refreshing this looks! It’s simply calling my name! I love the citrus boost here! Can’t wait to try it 🙂
I’ve just tried blood orange for the first time in ma life. Yup. I kinda dig it. Slightly bitter but then so is marmalade and I love marmalade. No need to speak of grapefruit. I love that. Yum to this smoothie.
This sounds so refreshing!! I had to leave the northeast because this was the time of year I just couldn’t handle the gray anymore!
Your smoothie sounds soooo good! Love the flavors and pretty color – and love that you included coconut milk!
