S’more To Go Around

Hey guys! How are you all doing? I hope you all had a great week! Let me tell you, it has been a HOT one here and it seems to be cooling down at night (yeah!!) so that’s been a big help. I love being outside and always find it calming. When we first started building our house, I remember Clint and I would just come to the property to hang out and enjoy being in the country.

These days, with a baby on the way and expecting her to come around the end of July means that our ‘summer travel plans’… are more ‘summer stay at home’ plans. To be honest, that works just fine for me! Aside from one long weekend we are planning to go away to Clint’s family’s cottage, this summer will be low key and mostly full of day-trips.

With both our girls only being 4 & 5 years old, they still get a kick out of the small things we do around the home… I hope that stays for a while, since Clint and I are home bodies. I know we are planning to do some bonfires in the backyard, and I might try and twist his arm, and set up the tent outside one night and bring the kids “camping”.

With all good camping tales, or bonfire adventures comes the snack that packs a sugar-induced coma that everyone has a love/hate relationship with (well at least I think they do). S’mores my dear friends… this tasty treat always lures me in… and after one I’m typically spent, with a tummy ache from the 30 pounds of sugar if felt like I just ate. Rest assured though, I think I have found a solution… and a way to monitor my s’more intake 🙂 Easy to prep, easy to pack, and s’more to go around the campfire… S’mores On The Go.

This easy to assemble treat can be packed away for picnic lunches, whip up a batch for camping, or heck make individual containers for long road trips ahead. It’s so simple and with the right ingredients it’s peanut free. I don’t know about you guys, but our elementary schools are peanut & fish free for allergy reasons, and I loved being able to send this in as a surprise treat during the school year.

An easy way to bring back the flavours of camping!
Ingredients
  • Golden Grahams Crunch Cereal
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Mini Milk Chocolate Chips
Instructions
  1. Measure out 2/3 cup of cereal, 1/3 cup of mini marshmallows & 1/2tbsp of mini chocolate chips.
  2. Mix all in an air tight container.
  3. If you’re making this in a large batch, I recommend either using a large ziploc bag or sealed container, and keeping it stored in a cool place. That way the marshmallows don’t dry out, and the chocolate doesn’t melt.

That’s it my friend… easy peasy. Actually so easy you could get your kids to make it, and you can just sit back and watch… but keep an eye out! It’s tempting to steal and handful or two when you’re getting it ready. You could also sprinkle this on top of your bowl of ice cream!

I hope this simple recipe inspires you to take 5minutes out of your day, and wind down with your kids, share some stories around a bonfire, camp in your backyard, watch a movie together, or even sit and chat a meal time. Summer is always my favourite season of the year, and I try and soak up as much quality kid-time as I do sun! Have a great weekend, and thank you so much for stopping in and taking the time to read my blog. I really do appreciate it 🙂
